Jan's Ancestors

Inez Johansson
Inez was born in Uddevalla, but her ancestry goes back to Dalsland. Like many other women of her time, she was a housewife. That did not mean she was idle. She and Ivar had eleven children together. As a child, walking with mother from Biskopsgården and taking the ferry to Sandarna brings back memories of kindness and security.

Ivar Lind
Ivar was born and raised in Hälsingland. His father was a soldier and supported himself between deployments as a forest and wood worker. Because of this, Ivar and his siblings moved frequently. They simply had to go wherever there was work. He eventually met Inez and then moved from Skönsmon to Gothenburg. This meant an end to his life at sea and a new job as a filer at a shipyard in Gothenburg. Over time, he became a prominent local trade union figure and a member of the VPK.

Elsa Eriksson
Elsa was born in Tensta, but her roots are in Västerbotten and Norrbotten. According to Ancestry DNA, these counties are her ancestral group. Elsa divorced Helmer Lindahl and kept the house. She was, for her time, an independent and modern woman. She supported herself working as an inspector at Volvo Penta. She enjoyed betting and was a devoted Chelsea supporter.

Leo Kruse
Not much is known about Leo. He is the father of my father, that much is certain also that his ancestors are from Estonia is certain. My father was later adopted and received the surname Lindahl. It was a name I carried until this year, when I managed to change my name and now proudly bear my grandfather’s name. At the time of my father’s birth, he worked as a warehouse worker, and together with Elsa he had a child out of wedlock. He spent many years living in an institution due to poor mental health.
